Stand Up and Fight

“We believe that, unless awareness improves, we won’t make any progress in reducing the enormous and largely preventable death toll. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C should have the same profile as HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB and should really be up there alongside those diseases in the WHO’s millennium goals.”

-Charles Gore, President of the World Hepatitis Alliance

Unfortunately, this is the reality that the world faces today. Hepatitis B and C are the cause of around 500 million people’s suffering in the world today, and I’m sure you will agree that something really needs to be done. This is where the World Hepatitis Alliance is in its element, as it hosts its fourth year of campaigning this year on May 19th 2008. Along with its ‘Am I Number 12?’ campaign (which aims to make people aware of the shocking statistic that one in twelve people globally have Hepatitis) the WHA is launching their ‘12 Asks’ campaign, which involves presenting World Health Organisations with 12 goals for combating Hepatitis by 2012. If you would like to join the ‘Am I Number 12?’ Campaign and help out Charles Gore and the rest of the Alliance then visit www.aminumber12.org.
